Question about GIMP and PSD
I use to be able to open PSD in GIMP without any problems viewing them, however, I've recently had my hard drive reformatted and when I open PSD files in GIMP now all the layers just show up solid white or invisable.. Is there some kind of plug-in or converter, or am I just screwed?

Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
Perhaps you haven't got the most recent one installed.Try un-installing and re-installing GIMP and go for the latest version- GIMP 2.6

Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
Ooops.Guess it has been a while since I upgraded ^^;
Hmm it might be a bug.I'm not sure.....
Have you tried more then one .PSD file?
And maybe it's something to do with the newer GIMP....maybe try a downgrade =/ ?

Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
That's actually not a bad idea... though it doesn't entirely make sense, does it? o.O
I never had any issues with psd before, then I had my hard drive re-formatted, and they don't seem to be compatible. It's not all psd, just certain ones. Very strange. I'm going to try and install an older version of GIMP and check it out.

Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
Maybe it's only the ones created with actual Photoshop o.O
I'd say downgrade, try it out and make sure you have all your plug-ins updated ^^
I've never really had a problem with just 2.6 though.Apart from the occasional freeze which happens in most versions of GIMP =/

Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
I'm guessing that's it. The ones created with Photoshop. I downloaded a trial of CS5 and opened some of the problem ones up... I think it has something to do with grouping, because GIMP deals with layers but not grouping of layers. O.o Meh. I guess before I buy any files I'll make sure they're made with GIMP or compatible, or that I get PNGs. Poo.

Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
If you saved the emails, perhaps email them back and ask if they have a PSD without grouping.Or even ask if they have a GIMP version.I know with grouping occasionally one layer will show up with 2 certain things but that is it =/ Or sometimes it shows up with just the one layer. I suppose if GIMP made their program exactly like Photoshop, then there is a possibility of a court order.I hope things get sorted out ^^

Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
When you right click on the PSD File in the folder make sure you set it to "Always open with Gimp" see if that works, cuz It happened to me a couple of weeks ago with my new computer and thats how I fixed it.
Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
The problem is not opening the file, it just doesn't display all the layers properly.

Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
There are some people who use Photoshop, and they use "Photoshop only components" which will not open correctly in gimp. You have to re-arrange the layers sometimes. I have had to do that before too.
Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
It seems like it's only the psd files where the creator used "grouping" in photoshop

Re: Question about GIMP and PSD
Yes but even then grouping may/may not work properly. I think it's updated to 2.9 now.
